Draft. This is a draft, written by the people who built this application and not reviewed by a lawyer. It is published so that what is actually done with your data is written down somewhere you can read it. It is not legal advice and it is not a claim to comply with anything.
Terms
LexipawsPY is a place to learn Python. It is built and run by Neolix Studio in Slovakia. These terms are the agreement between you and us about using the hosted service at this address.
Short version, and the rest of this page does not contradict it: everything that teaches is free, your work is yours, your account is yours to take away or delete, and we will not pretend to promise things a one-person service cannot deliver.
Making an account
You need an email address you can read, because the account is not usable until you follow the link we send to it. Choose a password of at least ten characters; we store it only as a hash and cannot tell you what it is.
One person, one account. Do not share it — not for any dramatic reason, but because progress, streaks and drills are all one person's and two people in one account get a worse version of both.
You are responsible for what happens under your account while you are signed in. If you think somebody else has got into it, reset your password: that signs out every session on the account, including theirs.
What children need
Some of the learners here are children, and accounts are sometimes made by a parent for a child. That is expected and welcome.
There is an open question here and we would rather name it than invent an answer. From what age a child in Slovakia can agree to a service like this themselves, rather than a parent agreeing for them, is being put to a professional. Until it is answered these terms do not state an age limit, and the honest position is: if you are a parent, make the account or agree to it with your child.
A parent can ask for their child's data to be exported or deleted at any time, and it will be done.
What is free
Everything that teaches is free and stays free. Every lesson, every drill, every hint and solution, unlimited running and submitting of code, the pet, and the project you can download and keep. That is a decision about what this is for, not an introductory offer.
There is no energy meter, nothing that makes you wait, and nothing that charges you for running broken code. Learning to program means running broken code, repeatedly, and reading what comes back.
What is paid, when it exists
Nothing is for sale yet. A subscription is planned at €7 a month, and what it will buy is an ongoing service rather than a key to a door: scanning your own git repositories and awarding credit for real work, hosted pages for finished projects, seats for a family, and wardrobe items earned by the craft meter.
When that exists:
- it will be sold through a merchant of record, who handles the payment and the tax, and this page and the privacy page will name them before anybody is charged;
- the price and what is included will be said plainly before you pay, and a change will not apply to a period already paid for;
- you will be able to cancel at any time and keep the rest of the period you paid for;
- nothing that teaches will move behind it.
As a consumer in the EU you have statutory rights about distance contracts, including a cooling-off period, and nothing here takes those away.
Running code here
You can run and submit Python. It runs on our servers, in a container built to hold nothing worth taking, with no network and a short time limit.
Do not use it as general-purpose computing: no mining, no scanning other people's machines, no attacking this service or anybody else's, and nothing illegal. There is a daily cap on how much code one account may run, which exists so that one person cannot spend the whole service's capacity; if you hit it honestly, say so and it will be raised.
If you use it for the things in the list above, the account goes.
Your work, and ours
What you write is yours. Your code, your project, your notes. We hold a copy in order to show it back to you, to mark your work, and to back it up, and we claim no ownership of it.
Where you flag a lesson as unclear and type something, we read it, because that is the point of the button. It is read in order to rewrite the lesson. We will not publish your words with your name or address attached.
The lessons, the content and the application are ours. You may use them to learn, including commercially — learn here and get a job, that is the idea. You may not copy the course out and republish it as your own.
What this service promises, and what it does not
One person runs this on a small hosted plan. Said plainly:
- There is no uptime guarantee. It will occasionally be down, and it will occasionally be down at the exact moment you had ten minutes to study.
- Your progress is backed up nightly, encrypted, off site. That is a real protection and it is not a promise that nothing can ever be lost.
- Nothing here is a qualification, a certification, or a promise about employment.
- Lessons change. One you have passed may be rewritten; your pass and the experience you earned stay.
Nothing in this section is meant to disclaim liability for something done deliberately or carelessly, or anything a law says cannot be disclaimed — which, for a consumer in the EU, is most of what such a clause usually tries to do.
Ending it
You can leave at any time. The Your data page will give you a download of everything held about you and will delete your account. The delete is immediate and cannot be undone, which is why it asks for your password and why the download is on the same page — take it first.
The privacy page says exactly what deletion reaches and what it does not, including the backups and how long they last.
We can close an account for the things listed under running code above, or if a law requires it. Otherwise we will not, and if the service itself has to shut down, everybody with an account will be told with enough notice to take their data out.
Changing these terms
These terms live in the application's source code, so a change is a dated commit rather than a silent edit. A change that matters to you will be said plainly to everybody with an account before it takes effect.
Law, and getting hold of us
Slovak law, and the courts of Slovakia, except where EU consumer law gives you the right to your own country's courts and law — which it generally does, and we are not trying to talk you out of it.
